About Dolby On solution
Dolby On is a mobile application that makes recording high-quality content fast and incredibly simple. With Dolby On, users can capture audio, video and livestream with professional-grade sound. Just tap “record” and the app will instantly analyse your sound and apply the right touch of EQ, compression, noise reduction, stereo widening and more.
The solution is available for both iOS and Android. Our team was tasked with taking over the project from another vendor and further developing both apps. See how it turned out!

The challenge
When Dolby On’s previous vendor became unavailable, the company tasked Miquido with taking over the entire project. The client’s main goal at that point was to focus on enhancing and improving the app for Android, as the majority of Dolby On’s users use it as their OS.
The previous vendor did not have much time to give the project over to another team. Taking into account the vastness of the code, this required Miquido’s team to focus primarily on getting an understanding of the project from the inside and start the work as quickly as possible. Our developers determined that the code would need refactoring, as many parts could be simplified.
The solution
With help and good organisation on the part of the client, we were able to push the first release in only 2 months.
When Miquido took over the project, the Android version of the app was much less advanced than its iOS counterpart. We expanded the Android app in order to bridge that gap, adding features such as batch delete or exporting a user’s recordings to a chosen folder, while also working on refactoring the code to make it less heavy and complex. Our team refreshed the designs, making the app more cohesive as a whole and vastly improving the user experience.
During the entire course of our cooperation, our team was able to successfully work together with the client across three different timelines: US (San Francisco), Poland and Australia (Sydney).
Results
Despite the necessity to enter the project in haste, we were able to smoothly take over the app, much to the client’s delight. Since Miquido became responsible for the project, Dolby On saw a significant increase in downloads and activations, as well as better user retention. As a result of our work, the client was also able to improve their planning and development operations. We’re very pleased to say that our work on the app was the beginning of a long-term collaboration with the company as Dolby decided to trust us with 3 additional projects.
