Tink Energy: Building a scalable platform for a shifting market

Making green energy math simple

Introduction

About project

The shift toward green energy is moving fast. Homeowners are eager to swap old systems for solar panels, heat pumps, and EV chargers, but the transition isn't exactly "plug and play."

The real challenge isn't the hardware—it’s the math. For most people, figuring out how these different systems work together to actually save money is a headache. Without clear, honest data, many homeowners hesitate to make the switch, unsure if the investment will really pay off.

Tink Energy was built to bridge that gap. Rather than leaving customers to guess, Tink integrates data from multiple energy sources to give homeowners a clear picture of their potential savings.

But as the energy market shifts, a static tool isn’t enough. To ensure their platform could handle new tech and more users, Tink teamed up with Miquido. Together, we built a flexible calculator and technical foundation designed to keep up with the industry—and Tink’s growth—without breaking a sweat.

Project Challenges

Engineering scalability in a shifting market

 01. Managing "moving target" logic

The energy market is intensely developing, meaning pricing rules and product combinations change daily. Tink needed to translate highly complex energy logic into a user-friendly funnel without getting bogged down by hard-coded limitations.

02. High growth vs. early-stage fluidity

As a startup with high growth potential, Tink faced an evolving scope. We needed a development process that could handle multiple change requests during the MVP phase while sticking to tight public launch deadlines.

03. Future-proofing for a competitive market

To stand out, Tink couldn't just build for today. The architecture had to support future "white-label" scenarios and partnerships, allowing other companies to plug into Tink’s logic without rebuilding the system from scratch.

Solutions

Headess, extensible, partnership-driven

01. Modular Medusa.js architecture

We chose Medusa.js as the backend foundation because of its modularity. While Tink’s immediate priority was a high-performing calculator, they needed a system that wouldn't trap them in a corner later. Medusa’s headless architecture allows us to handle complex energy bundles now, while providing a clear path to expand into a full-scale e-commerce platform whenever the business is ready to grow.

02. Decoupled logic for maximum agility

By adopting a headless approach, we separated the business logic from the user interface. This means Tink can experiment with marketing funnels, UX tweaks, and new frontend designs independently, while the core pricing and calculation engines remain stable and secure.

03. Flexible pricing & product modeling

Using Medusa’s extensible framework, we designed a data model that treats products and pricing as dynamic entities. Tink can now adjust rates, introduce new green energy components, or onboard new partners without deep code changes—a critical edge in a blooming industry.

04. Custom questionnaire funnel

We implemented an intelligent questionnaire with advanced conditional logic. It guides users through the maze of energy data input, validating information in real-time to ensure the resulting offers are both accurate and realistic.

05. Seamless ecosystem integration

To turn insights into sales, we integrated HubSpot and Calendly. This ensures that every lead generated by the calculator is immediately available to the sales team with structured data, bridging the gap between a "tool" and a "business engine."

06. Proactive product partnership

Miquido acted as more than a vendor; we were a strategic partner. We proactively supported decision-making, helping Tink navigate technical debt and feature prioritization to ensure the MVP was both lean and powerful.

Results

Go-to-market success, built to scale

01.  Successful go-to-market launch

Tink Energy successfully launched its core calculator and offer flow, providing the market with much-needed transparency and helping homeowners commit to green energy with confidence.

02. Clean, CRM-ready data

The transition from complex math to structured lead is now automated. Sales teams receive ready-to-use data, significantly reducing the sales cycle and improving conversion rates.

03. A foundation for "what's next"

Thanks to the Medusa.js backend, Tink is not limited by its current features. They have a long-term foundation ready for partner expansion, new product types (like heat pumps or smart home integrations), and post-lead monetization.

04. Trusted tech suit for a competitive edge

By prioritizing a flexible, headless architecture from day one, Tink Energy has secured its place as a tech-forward leader in the energy-tech space, capable of out-pivoting and out-growing competitors.
