Miquido Joins AWS Partner Network
We are pleased to announce that Miquido has just joined the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Partner Network as a Select Consulting Partner! The AWS Partner Network is a worldwide partnership programme that gathers and distinguishes companies using the AWS cloud solutions to bring their customers seamless services of the highest performance, cost-effectiveness, and security level.
What is AWS (Amazon Web Services)
Amazon Web Services is the world’s most flexible, secure, and extensive cloud computing environment, offering 76 availability zones within 24 geographic regions around the world. AWS is also known for its broadest operational experience between other cloud services providers.
Amazon Web Services covers over 175 fully-featured services and a broad set of global cloud-based products. That number includes cloud computing, storage, databases, and others. Services and products offered by AWS prove especially handy when it comes to lowering IT costs or increasing security in areas such as web and mobile app development, video game industry, data processing, storage, archiving, and many others, including high-sensitivity industries and organisations.
What is Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is the on-demand delivery of compute power, database, storage, applications, and other IT resources via the internet with pay-as-you-go pricing. To paint a live picture, we will look at an example.
Let’s assume that your business processes a lot of data and has significant storage needs. Investing in cloud computing in such a scenario saves your business quite a lot on IT resources in the long run. Instead of buying, owning, and maintaining physical data centers and servers, you can use the computing power to safely and securely store and process your data in the cloud.
Business benefits of Cloud Computing
Growth hacking opportunities
Using cloud services instead of conventional on-premises solutions, you can expand your business and reach new geographic regions with your digital product in a matter of minutes.
Long-term business savings
The cloud allows you to skip operational expenses (such as the cost of maintaining data centers and physical servers), and only pay for the IT services as you use them, proportionally to your business needs.
If you choose to try cloud computing, you won’t have to splurge on resources upfront in order to support the prognosed business activity growth in the future. Instead, you only pay for the resources you need in a given moment. You can later scale them up or down as soon as your business needs change.
Access to cutting-edge solutions
What is more, a cloud such as AWS gives you easy access to a broad range of opportunities helping your business grow faster and introduce new solutions. You can expand on your resources as soon as you need them – from infrastructure services, such as compute, storage, and databases, to machine learning and analytics.
What is AWS Partner Network
Did you know that more than 90% of Fortune 100 companies and the majority of Fortune 500 companies utilize APN (Amazon Partner Network) solutions and services? Amazon created the APN programme to help business owners identify and choose high-quality APN Partners with profound AWS expertise.
About our solutions
The goal of the project was to create a backend template automatically creating infrastructure on the AWS platform. The ultimate aim was to create a solution of maximum flexibility. It would allow the owner to set up a new project with just one click.
How is that possible? Within several code repositories, we developed the template together with various configurable terraform modules. We combined the modules into one ready-to-use template, creating the AWS infrastructure. Thanks to that, the backend project is pre-configured and ready for further development, which greatly reduces the project’s set-up time.
The solution uses a wide range of AWS services. We kept the source code in the AWS CodeCommit, and we used AWS CodeBuild and CodePipeline to build the project. We used AWS ECS to deploy the container with the backend application. As a database solution, we used AWS RDS Aurora. Aurora allows for scaling the database automatically, depending on its load. We used AWS ElasticCache to cache the app’s data.
The app’s API is defined in the AWS API Gateway. It is created on the basis of the OpenAPI specification generated by the backend. The frontend is stored on AWS S3 and served to the user by AWS Cloudfront. Monitoring in the form of logs, metrics and alarms is provided by AWS CloudWatch. AWS Web Application Firewall watches over application security.
Nextbank Credit Scoring
Finalist at Singapore Fintech Festival 2019
The aim of the project was to create an AI credit scoring solution able to calculate credit risk for a given loan application based on Machine Learning model instead of limited and hard to maintain scorecards. Nextbank decided to give AWS cloud services a go. It allowed them to easily scale their solution in the future, depending on the amount of data.
The main challenge our team faced was the amount of customer data and the size of the instance needed to process it. As a result, we created a terraform module that Nextbank could then easily implement for each of their own customers.
We used AWS S3 to store the project’s simple frontend, while AWS CloudFront brings it to the user. Our team built the prediction service in Java and hosted it with AWS Beanstalk. On the other hand, we created the prediction module in Python 3.6 on AWS Lambda. Monitoring in the form of logs, metrics and reports is provided by AWS CloudWatch. Cumulative prediction reports module and the training module run periodically as the Fargate task on ECS. We stored the app’s data in AWS S3, and for the database we used AWS RDS with a PostgreSQL. Last but not least, we used AWS Route53 for domain and certificate management.
